SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE · THE CHOICE, TESTED EARLY

Take my SNHU class.

Nearly everything in an eight week term is fixed for you. The dates, the readings, the criteria. One thing is not: the case, the organisation or the setting you pick in the opening days, before you know what the later work will demand of it. That single choice sets the term.

01The one free variable in a fixed term

Courses here build toward a single piece of work that is submitted in instalments, and each instalment is graded on the way past. Because the parts are handed in as you go, they inherit whatever you decided at the start. A subject chosen in the first days therefore appears in every submission that follows it.

Students choose that subject the way anybody would with no information: they pick something interesting, or something they already have an opinion about. Interest is a fair criterion in week one and a poor one by week five, when the criteria want figures, policies or documents a merely interesting subject cannot supply.

02What a choice has to survive

So a tender tests the candidate before a word of the first instalment is written, and the test takes one evening rather than a term. It is a supply question, not a taste question: does the evidence the later work needs actually exist, and can you reach it from where you sit tonight.

Four checks settle it, and a subject that fails any of them is replaced while replacing it is free.

03The date after which changing costs more than staying

There is a point in every term past which switching subject costs more than living with a poor one. It sits at the moment when enough graded instalments have been filed that changing means rewriting them all, and it is usually earlier than people think.

Before that point, a tender will tell you plainly to start again. After it, the work becomes making a weak choice carry the remaining weight, which is possible more often than students expect and is far easier when one person has held the whole term. That is the ordinary shape of full class support here.

04The rest of the eight weeks, and the parts we leave alone

Underneath the instalments runs the weekly layer: the board contributions, the short journal entries, the low stakes quizzes. Not one item in it is hard. Together they never stop, so the layer is handled through the weekly plot rather than allowed to compete with the project for the same evening. Single pieces can be taken on their own through essays and assignments.

Anything invigilated is sat by you, anything measuring your own reflection is written by you, and your account details are yours alone at every stage.

Southern New Hampshire University has no commercial tie to this practice: nothing endorsed, nothing sponsored, and no agreement between us of any sort. Its terms appear on this page for a single reason, which is that the people who would do your work have already lived through them.

STEP_01

Send the course over

The syllabus, the criteria for the final piece, and whatever you were thinking of choosing. A tender in your discipline replies within two hours.

STEP_02

Test the choice

The subject is checked against what the later instalments will demand, and swapped now if it will not hold. You decide, with the reasoning in front of you.

STEP_03

File the instalments

Each part reaches you early in its week with the criteria answered in order, and the same tender carries the thread through to the final submission.

FAQQuestions to control

I am on instalment three and my topic is not working. What now?

A tender reads what has already been graded and works out whether a change is still affordable. If the earlier parts can be recast in a few evenings, changing is usually right. If not, the job becomes finding what the current subject can support and building the rest around that. You get the arithmetic, not a sales answer.

Can somebody take just the final project and leave me the weekly work?

Yes, and it is a common split. The project is the piece with the most marks and the least forgiveness, while the boards and journals are the part people can usually keep. A tender takes the instalments, checks each against its criteria, and returns them early enough that you can put your own voice through them.

Does feedback on one instalment actually change the next one?

It should, and that is where most marks are quietly lost. Comments on an early part are instructions for the later ones, not a verdict on the one you have finished. A tender lines each comment against the criterion it refers to and carries the change forward, so the same note is never earned twice in a single term.

Two courses inside the same short term. Is that realistic for somebody working?

It is, provided the two projects are not competing for the same weekends, which they will unless somebody looks. A tender lays both calendars side by side, spots where instalments collide, and moves the moveable work. Where the two subjects are unrelated, a second tender comes in and one of the pair keeps the master calendar.

What does help with a full SNHU course cost?

The quote follows the course rather than a price list, because level and workload move it more than anything else. An undergraduate course sits low on the scale, a master's term with a substantial project sits well above it. You get the figure broken out by part within two hours, so anything you would rather keep can be struck.
