The single course model does something genuinely useful. There is one syllabus to hold in your head, one set of expectations, one marker, and nothing competing for the same evening. Students who have drowned carrying four courses at another school often finish here for exactly that reason.
The cost sits in the other direction and is rarely explained. Because nothing runs in parallel, nothing can take up slack. A block you do not clear is not a gap in a semester; it is a course that has to be repeated before the next one may begin, and every course after it moves back by that much.
02What a repeated block actually takes from you
It is worth being exact about this rather than gloomy, because the arithmetic is the whole argument for acting early. A repeat is not one bad grade on a transcript.
Four things go with it, and all four are the reason a tender would rather be brought in during week one than week five.
- The weeks themselves, spent a second time on material you have already sat through once.
- Another block of fees, which is a real cost and not a small one at any level of study.
- The position of every course still ahead of you, each pushed back by the length of the block.
- Your finishing date, which moves by the same amount and is the thing most people actually care about.
03The boundary between blocks is where decisions are cheap
Inside a five week course everything is already committed. The syllabus is fixed, the dates are close together, and there is no room to reorganise. Between one course and the next there is a short window in which real choices exist: whether to take the next course now or step back a block, whether to hand the whole of it over, whether to buy only the piece that ruined the last one.
So a tender likes to see the next course before it opens rather than in its third week. The plan comes back mapped across all five or six weeks, and the term then runs the way full class support runs anywhere: drafts early in the week, your read, your submission.
04Weekly obligations, and the parts nobody else can do

I am in week three of a five week course and it is not going to close. What now?
A tender totals what is still gradeable, reads the late work rules in your syllabus, and checks the last day you could step out without a failing mark recorded. Sometimes the honest answer is to take the loss cleanly and put the money into the next block instead, and you will be told so plainly.
Can somebody take the whole block rather than pieces of it?
Yes, and with one course running at a time it is the common request. One tender holds everything carrying a mark, from the first week through to the closing piece, including the recurring contributions. You still read everything before it is filed, and you can strike any part of the quote you would rather keep for yourself.
The team assignment has gone quiet again. Is that something you deal with?
Your share of it is. It gets written as a complete piece that makes sense on its own, so a silent team cannot pull your mark down with it. A tender will also draft the message to your instructor recording what you contributed and when. We never write to your classmates.
How is the recurring weekly requirement actually met on nights?
